Stephen began his career in the lab researching the role of transcription factors and ion channel expression in neuronal, glial and smooth muscle cells at NIH and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).
Adding to his Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Stephen obtained an MBA in Executive Management from the Joseph Sellinger School of Business, Loyola University of Maryland. Shortly thereafter Stephen moved from the lab to the Office of Technology Commercialization at UMB where he negotiated over 30 license agreements and assisted in obtaining more than $300K in proof of concept awards. Stephen was involved in creating University spin-outs including Harpoon Medical, recently acquired by Edwards Lifesciences for $100M.
In 2012 Stephen joined Cleveland Clinic Innovations to lead MedStar’s technology commercialization office. In addition to commercializing technologies invented at MedStar, Stephen’s ambition is to harness the innovative capital of all 33,000 MedStar associates through internal innovation programs and product development collaborations with industry partners.
