John Connolly is a 2023 MD Candidate and 21st Century Scholar at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He is interested in combining a career in clinical medicine with work in health services research, health system leadership, and public service. Prior to medical school, he worked with Aledade on establishing contracts between commercial payors and primary care ACOs. He also worked closely with Aledade’s partner physicians on succeeding in value-based contracts. As a medical student at Penn, he has conducted health services research on the impacts of alternative payment methodologies on vulnerable populations, and he has served as the medical director for a multidisciplinary primary care clinic in West Philadelphia. During the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked with Penn’s Center for Evidence Based Practice to integrate newly released research into health system-wide guidelines for practicing medicine during COVID. He also worked with Penn’s Healthcare Transformation Institute in consulting with state governments during initial reopening efforts in spring and summer 2020. His writing and research have appeared in Health Affairs, the USA Today Network, and Medpage Today. He currently is a 2022 Zetema Project Fellow. John earned a BA from the University of Virginia with majors in History and Government, where he was a Jefferson Scholar.Back To Team
