David L. Branch III has over 20 years of work experience and held a variety of leadership roles within continuous business improvement, strategy, and operational leadership for several Fortune 500 organizations.
He began his leadership journey by graduating from Black & Decker’s Manufacturing Management Development Program where he established a solid foundation in business process improvement and operations. David is currently in the role of VP, Performance Improvement (PI) for MedStar Health. Aimed at driving high reliability healthcare at MedStar, he leads a corporate PI Team that is focused on continuous improvement training, data analytics, and enterprise-wide improvement in both operational and clinical areas. Prior to joining MedStar, David was the VP, Quality & Performance Improvement for University Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health. At Upper Chesapeake Health, he led a multifunctional team comprised of Performance Improvement, Quality Management, Patient Safety, Medical Records, Clinical Documentation Improvement, and Coding. In addition, David is an adjunct professor for University of MD University Global Campus (UMGC). At UMGC, he teaches classes related to process improvement, leadership, organizational theory, and project management. David holds an Electrical Engineering Degree from Drexel University and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University with a concentration in Management. In addition to his solid educational background, he holds certifications as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black belt (Villanova University), Six Sigma Black belt (ASQ), Project Management Professional (PMP), and Balanced Scorecard Strategy Management practitioner. David was selected to the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners for the 2019 award cycle. David has a true passion for people and problem solving.
