John Machalek is the General Manager for Serious Mental Illness (SMI) at Carelon Behavioral Health, where he owns the P&L for a Medicaid-focused, whole-health risk product integrating behavioral, medical, pharmacy, and social care. He is responsible for an SMI portfolio of approximately $2.5B in annual revenue serving more than 150,000 individuals across four states.
In addition to leading SMI, John serves as the national lead for Carelon Behavioral Health’s Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Center of Excellence and Hybrid Clinical Partnerships Center of Excellence.
Previously, John held senior finance and strategy roles at Carelon and Elevance Health and began his career in healthcare consulting at HealthScape Advisors.
