Benjamin S. Bunney, MD

Dr. Benjamin S. Bunney is Co-founder, investor, board member and Senior Advisor for Oui Therapeutics, Inc. Dr. Bunney served as a Captain in the Air Force, practicing internal medicine for two years during the Vietnam War for which he received the Air force accommodation medal for Military Merit. He then completed a psychiatric residency at Yale and joined the faculty where he became a tenured professor of Psychiatry and Pharmacology, and professor of Neuroscience. Dr. Bunney is one of the world’s leading experts on the brain’s dopamine systems. For his pioneering research he won several international research prizes and was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 1993. Dr. Bunney’s public service includes appointment to the Governor of CT’s Mental Health Disaster Plan Committee, initiated after 9/11, and appointment to the state Blue Ribbon committee tasked with reinventing mental health care provided by the state. National service includes serving 8 years on NIMH study sections and chairing the committee that reviews all NIMH intramural research. He has served on numerous editorial and company boards and been a consultant to many pharmaceutical and biotech companies. During his tenure at Yale and after retirement he co-founded six companies including Neurogen, PsychoGenics and Cobalt Therapeutics. At present, he is the Charles B. G. Murphy Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University, serves on a variety of company boards, and works for the Army as a Highly Qualified Expert in suicide prevention.
