Austen brings a decade-and-a-half of multi-industry experience to his current role on the Corporate Development & Strategic Investments team at GuideWell. Here, Austen leads in the strategic investment process in support of mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures & partnerships, minority investments, and healthcare focused venture capital & private equity investments. In his three years at GuideWell, Austen has helped execute on inorganic strategies ranging from $5M+ direct investments to over $1B acquisitions covering the care delivery, behavioral health, and healthcare technology domains. Additionally, Austen leads the diligence and the management of $150M+ of venture capital & private equity LP investments. Prior to joining GuideWell Austen spent time as a generalist equity analyst at thematic long-only investment fund. Previous experiences include roles in: corporate finance & strategy at CSX, a Class-I US Railroad; private equity at The Carlyle Group, a global asset manager with over $200B in AUM; and management consulting for PwC’s Financial Services Advisory Group. Austen is currently an MBA Candidate at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, an alumnus of the University of Florida, and is a CFA Charterholder.
